FRED ADAMS FOR SENATE - Position Paper
Politicians are very good at hiding what they believe. That's because what they really believe may not represent the interests of their constituents in their home states. I, on the other hand, am very proud to tell you exactly what I believe. I have thought about these issues my entire adult life, and I am confident that my positions represent a smart, common sense, and balanced approach to government.
ISSUE 1 - Strong military
- Favors a strong and coordinated military capable of addressing multiple simultaneous threats worldwide.
- Favors an ultra-high-tech military capable of eliminating threats in real-time.
- Unconditional support of our troops and their families.
- Favors pay and pension reforms.
ISSUE 2 - War on Terror
- Opposes protracted ground wars on terrorist soil.
- Opposes forced "democratization" of terrorist states.
- Favors aggressive negotiations with and sanctions against terrorists states.
- Favors threat assessment and limited air strikes as the primary means to eliminate imminent terrorist threats against the United States (The Adams Doctrine).
ISSUE 3 - Homeland Security
- Supports the U.S Patriot Act.
- Favors monitoring of the Act by Congress to prevent infringement on individual freedoms.
- Favors continued consolidation of security agencies to improve and streamline America's intelligence capabilities.
ISSUE 4 - Immigration
- Favors full and immediate enforcement of existing immigration laws.
- Favors full and immediate protection of borders, ports, and airports.
- Favors laws penalizing employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants.
- By simply enforcing existing laws, illegal immigrants will be required to apply for legal status in order to work in the U.S. just like the millions of other immigrants who have done so in a forthright and legal manner.
ISSUE 5 - The Economy
- Favors the Balanced Budget Amendment.
- Favors the line-item veto.
- Opposes excessive spending at all levels.
- Supports the strategies of the Republican Party in Congress to stop runaway spending and to halt the ever increasing national debt.
- Supports American businesses and American jobs.
- Favors fair and equal trading policies with foreign nations.
ISSUE 6 - Minimum Wage & Assistance
- After no increase in ten years, the minimum wage was finally increased in 2007, and will continue to increase each year until it reaches $7.25 per hour in 2009. I support that increase, and believe in a livable wage for all families.
- Favors increased housing and energy assistance for the elderly and poor.
ISSUE 7 - National Energy Policy
- Supports the immediate easing of regulations and restrictions on nuclear power (modern technology and designs have made nuclear reactors the safest, cleanest, and most efficient producers of power on earth).
- Supports an emergency program to build 25 new nuclear reactors within seven years.
- Supports an emergency program to build 25 new ultra-clean coal-fired plants within five years.
- Supports an emergency program to build 15 new ultra-modern oil refineries within five years.
- Supports the expansion of oil exploration and production in North America, including the vast reserves in western Canada.
- Supports conservation at all levels, and an emergency program to develop a viable replacement for the internal combustion engine.
ISSUE 8 - Abortion
- Few really understand this issue - it's the history of the fight for equal rights between men and women.
- In 1920, women won a battle in the fight for equality, and the Nineteenth Amendment guaranteed their right to vote.
- For the next 45 years, feminists viewed having and raising children as an impediment to furthering equal rights, and birth control became a legal option in 1965.
- Then in 1973, something went terribly wrong and living children themselves become the impediment, and abortion became the legal solution.
- My friends, there are better ways to achieve equality than to eliminate children who get in the way.
- I support the passage of a nationwide Emergency Adoption Act to address this issue. It must be fast, simple, and affordable.
- I support the immediate passage of an abortion neutral Equal Rights Amendment to resolve the issue of equality between men and women once and for all.
- Republicans have always believed that "the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed." It's time for all Americans and the U.S. Supreme Court to embrace this belief over the issue of abortion.
ISSUE 9 - Social Security
- Opposes privatization and cuts in benefits.
- Favors creation of a Social Security IRA.
ISSUE 10 - Retirement Security - Pensions
- Opposes laws allowing employers to bankrupt pensions.
- Favors full funding of pensions by employers.
- Favors mandatory deposit of pension funds with independent financial institutions in privately owned employee accounts.
ISSUE 11 - Medicare Reform
- Favors inclusion of Medicare Part D as a basic component of Medicare for all retired persons.
- Favors simplification of Medicare Part D to cover a fixed percentage of drug costs for all retired persons.
- Favors continued improvement and simplification of Medicare to address the needs of senior citizens.
ISSUE 12 - Health Insurance & Drug Costs
- Favors laws preventing drug and insurance companies from arbitrarily raising costs and premiums at exorbitant rates.
- Favors laws slashing time-lines for testing and approving drugs for catastrophic and terminal illnesses.
- Favors creation of a new ultra-affordable health insurance policy limited to annual screening tests for common conditions and diseases.
- Supports aggressive medical research at all levels.
ISSUE 13 - Education & Job Training
- Favors abolishing the No Child Left Behind Act (since its passage, national test scores have plummeted and students are not being prepared for college or the work force).
- The real problem in K-12 education is the lack of student discipline, morality, and civility (a chronic condition of our "modern" American society). If we fix these, we fix education.
- Supports laws expanding the authority of public schools to enforce discipline.
- Supports high school redesign (dividing high school curricula into two tracks - academic and technical job training).
ISSUE 14 - Good Stewardship
- Supports good stewardship in the management of our lands and natural resources.
- Supports a balanced use of public lands for the benefit of all citizens.
ISSUE 15 - Second Amendment
- The Second Amendment is an individual right under the Bill of Rights and cannot be taken away from a free people.
- The right to keep and bear arms has assured our individual and collective freedoms for 216 years and counting.
- The right to keep and bear arms affirms our right to protect ourselves, our families, and property.
- The right to keep and bear arms enables us to be the people our founding fathers envisioned us to be.
- Growing up in Idaho, I am an avid sportsman and hunter, and a proud member of the NRA.
- I will fight to protect these rights from those who seek to destroy our freedoms and control our lives.
ISSUE 16 - War on Illegal Drugs
- Drug dealers (national and international) continue to destroy our communities and families, ruin individual lives, kill without conscience, and permanently damage the minds and bodies of our children.
- I have zero tolerance for them. They are terrorists, and I support a real war on drugs with a real stated goal - elimination of these criminals.
- I support an air war to destroy drug crops and facilities regardless of location.
- I support mandatory minimum prison terms for all drug dealers.
- I favor compassion and expanded treatment programs for those who have been enslaved by drugs.
ISSUE 17 - Washington Corruption
- Americans have lost faith in Congress (it's current approval rating is disgraceful).
- Americans are disgusted and frustrated by politicians whose only real talent is to lie about each other.
- Americans are outraged by unelected federal judges who have given themselves the power to define any law, make up laws, and declare null and void laws made through the democratic process.
- Ultimately, the burden of correction lies with the voters, and I have always been impressed by the voters in Idaho who, unlike voters in many states, have consistently sent people of high moral character and ability to Washington. If the voters of Idaho choose to send me to Washington, I will continue this tradition of excellence and will take it to a new level.
